The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
As believers, because we have the Holy Spirit in us, we also have the Word in us:
- The Father, Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit are one.
- Jesus is the WORD made flesh [John 1].
- So again, to have His Holy Spirit is to have His Word in us.
At the same time, we can’t be passive and must stir up the Word by getting in it and being rooted in it, so it’s on our heart and on our lips as we need it – for powerful prayer, to bless others, to answer the attacks of the enemy.
How is the abundant life connected to a life submitted to the Holy Spirit?
Because we are indwelt by His Spirit thus His Word, our hearts long for His Word to come to pass in our lives, for His kingdom ways, for blessings from Abba Father.
This is not a form of the prosperity gospel. A strong desire for an abundant life comes directly from our loving Father because His desire to bless His children is all throughout His Word. But tied to that strong desire is a knowing that it’s a submitted, obedient life to the Father which causes His blessings to fall on us.
Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God.
Everything to do with the kingdom of God is good.
An obedient life submitted to the Holy Spirit excites and pleases the Father’s heart because He loves and longs to bless us.
But Samuel replied,“What is more pleasing to the Lord:
your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice?
Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft,
and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.
1 Samuel 15:22-23 NLT
You can read here in Deuteronomy 28 about God’s blessings on obedience. The source of your desire to be blessed and obey Him is His Word.
It’s not wrong to desire blessings because His Spirit teaches that they fall on us as a consequence of obedience to Him.
Finally, what is the abundant life’s destination?
So the Lord blesses us with natural things, spiritual gifts, abundance on every side and we see that:
- He brought us there to be a blessing to others.
- and understand it’s of God to desire His blessings.
- it’s a lie of the enemy that His children who desire blessings are not in line with God.
Of course the enemy wants us bless-less and in lack because we can’t be a blessing to others the way the Lord desires.
Its destination is:
You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
The abundant life of God is full of the desire for His kingdom ways and to be used of God as co-laborers of Jesus to bless and to see Isaiah 61:1-3 spread throughout the earth.
The Good News of Salvation
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
