Joel 1_8 - Now is the day of salvation

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

JOEL 1:8

I dreamed of the above verse – simply the reference – seconds before I woke up this morning, had no idea what is was, but knew God was speaking to me, so I looked it up.

At first, I was like, “Is this for me, Lord? No idea what you are trying to tell ME or how it applies to my life right now.” I was still groggy. Then I picked up the Word again and skimmed through Joel, it’s only three chapters.

I put the Word down and heard in my spirit, “Virgins. Why would virgins lament for their husband.” I answered, “Oh, Lord, Husband, capital ‘H’, as in You, the Husband of the church Your bride.” Tears poured and poured down my face, and I strongly felt the presence of the Lord. I knew, He wanted to me write about the virgins, their oil lamps, and salvation.

The time is very late, and the Lord doesn’t want anyone to be like the foolish virgins. He died for all, but we must each choose Him for ourselves. It’s His will that none would perish for eternity, but we know that His will won’t happen for everyone because He’s given us free will. True love allows us to choose Him or not.

The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins – Matthew 25:1-13  (NKJV)

“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.  Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

“And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.

“Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Oil represents the Holy Spirit.

The wise virgins chose Jesus as their Savior and carried His Holy Spirit, and the foolish ones never chose Him and were devoid of His Holy Spirit.

This is why He used Joel 1:8 to speak to me this morning and share this word from Him. We need only look around and see the signs of the times, look at Israel, and see we are closer than ever to the Lord Jesus to take up His church.

Lament – (verb) – to passionately express sorrow or regret for.

God loves you and doesn’t want anyone to have to lament being left behind, being locked out, devoid of His Holy Spirit, devoid of the free gift of salvation that we receive by faith alone, never by good works but by His one great work alone – His death and resurrection, His taking our place, so there’s a place in eternity for anyone who chooses Him.

So, how do you have total assurance of eternal security with God? It’s a simple choice and act of humbling yourself and choosing Jesus by faith alone.

Admit you’re a sinner

Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8-9 – For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Believe in your heart

Romans 10:9-10 – That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Call upon the name of the Lord

Romans 10:13 – For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

The Lord is says, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).

I pray if you haven’t called upon the name of the Lord that you don’t wait another second.

Said as a prayer

God, I’ve sinned against You, but I choose to turn from my sin now. By faith, I confess ‘Jesus is Lord’, believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. I call upon the name of the Lord, and I am now saved and fully justified by God. My oil lamp is now forever full, and I will not have to lament the day my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ comes in Jesus’ name, amen.
