Be praying people

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7

We pray because…

  • it’s God’s established way of communicating and communing with us [seen all throughout scripture]
  • we are called to pray and pray about everything about everything [Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18].
  • it’s how we talk to God as we are His children and in a Father, child relationship with Him. Even Jesus prayed [Matthew 14:23].
  • it’s how God moves and changes things on the earth [seen all throughout scripture. God didn’t move or change things UNTIL His people prayed; 1 Samuel 7:9; 2 Corinthians 1:10-12].
  • through it we subdue darkness and the works of the enemy in our lives and for those whom we pray for [Ephesians 6:12; Mark 16:17-19].
  • Jesus prayed and ALWAYS lives to pray for us [Hebrews 7:25].
  • it continually causes us to acknowledge our childlike dependence on God [Matthew 18:1-5].
  • answered prayer encourages our faith and the faith of others [Revelations 12:11].
  • waiting on the answer to our prayers trains our faith, refines us, and teaches us to wait on, depend on, and trust in God and His timing, knowing and believing He has a good plan for our lives because He knows and sees all [Jeremiah 29:11-13].
  • it draws us into a closer and more personal and intimate relationship with the Father [James 4:8].
  • there are too many verses to list that demonstrate its importance to God, a God that loves to hear from us, have a relationship us, allows us to reason with Him, and so much more [Isaiah 1:18; Isaiah 43:26; Genesis 18:20-33]

We are called to pray for many reasons. Prayer is a gift from a loving, merciful, and compassionate Father God who longs for us to know Him in a real and personal way, and getting there happens through prayer (talking to him, petitioning and asking for His help, reasoning with Him to change circumstances, praying for others and about situations and injustices in the world, etc.).

Not only are we His beloved children whom He loves to be in relationship with, but He uses us to change the spiritual atmosphere and even the eternal destinies of others through OUR prayers on behalf of the lost. Incredible – just like Him!

Be praying people.

Lord, remind us continually of the importance of prayer for we need You to keep us in all ways. Draw us to You. Cause us to desire Your ways, including and serious and regular prayer life where we can pour ourselves out to You – good and bad, get to know You more, pray for others, and pray for the enemy of our souls to be subdued in situations as You bring them to our attention and in our lives. It’s in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11-13

In order for us to grow in the Lord, – He must increase, but I must decrease [John 3:30] – we must be Word people.

It’s not enough to have our pastors or anyone else interpret the Word for us. We are living in dark times where even the very elect are deceived. We don’t know the hearts and the intentions of the hearts of any pastor or teacher of His Word.

We see rampant false gospels being preached today. With urgency, the Lord has been telling me to not solely allow others to feed me the Word and their interpretation of it.

There are true preachers and teachers of the Word out there, but more and more are falling away and into compromise as to not offend church attendees, attract numbers or maintain popularity.

We all need the Word because the Word of God is…

…to deny ourselves the Word is to deny ourselves of…

  • the blessings and honor of knowing Him more and interacting intimately with Him and His Holy, timeless, and eternal Word (as He equates Himself with His Word in John 1 and His Word has no beginning or end)
  • spiritual growth and conviction of sin
  • life and heath to our bodies

and so much more.

The Word is Life and a Gift. Not a burden or vessel to be seen as more pleasing and righteous before God. Our righteousness is from Jesus alone.

His Word is…

  • a gift to us
  • for our blessing and spiritual growth from glory to glory
  • to breathe life, wisdom, and health into us
  • ‘food’ for our souls and spirits – a need for our bodies
  • to correct and convict
  • to keep us from the deception of the enemy as His truth becomes more deeply rooted in us

No Word means…

  • not getting to know God, Your Maker, the Creator of all life, Your Good Father
  • no life giving power in our lives
  • no growth and change
  • no increased faith
  • one is easily deceived and confused by the world’s ways.

It’s important that the Word of God back up our words. Out of love, I encourage you to not skip over the verses in this post because they are the most important parts.

Some great verses on the importance of His Word

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” ~ Galatians 2:20-21

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” ~ Luke 9:23-24

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” ~Hebrews 4:12

“Give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.” ~ Proverbs 4:20-22

“Establish Your word to Your servant, who is devoted to fearing You.” ~ Psalm 119:38

“The people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” ~ Daniel 11:32

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” ~ John 17:17

Father, I pray for You to move by Your Holy Spirit in the hearts and spirits of all Your people to desire You and Your Word, to see it as the great blessing and gift that it is to all Your children. I bind every lie of the enemy from causing them to believe otherwise. In these times of great deception, we must be grounded in You and Your Word, so we are ‘no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love’ [Ephesians 4:14-15] in Jesus’ name amen.
